Willie Edwards was born on May 2, 1923, and passed away on January 23, 1957. At the time of his death, he was 33 years old. Edwards was an African American laborer from Montgomery, Alabama, who was murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan for attempting to exercise his right to vote. His death became a symbol of the brutality and violence faced by African Americans during the civil rights movement.
